ADDITIONAL SERVICES

{Tipping is usually part of the culture and in most cases leaving a tip is good etiquette as well showing your appreciation for the good services you would be received, unless of course the service was really terrible, don't feel obliged to give a tip just because it is "customary". Most of the industries that involved in providing services, such as restaurants, pay wages as they expect the employee will receive tips. Therefore, it is quite nice of you to give tip when you get an amazing service}.

Day 1

Arrival

Welcome to Jordan and start your amazing Holiday! Upon arrival at Queen Alia Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Amman.

Overnight: Amman | Meals: None.

Day 2

Umm Al-Jimal, Shumari Reserve & Azraq

Drive to Umm al-Jimal, which also called “Black Gem of the desert”, it was once an important caravan way station on the margins of the Decapolis. Rural and well to do, it was a fitting contrast to the surrounding busy cities. Its mansions and towers, some still standing to three stories high, are architectural wonders. The remains of some 14 Byzantine churches have been discovered here.

Drive to Shaumari Reserve, created as a breeding center for endangered or locally extinct wildlife, the Shaumari Reserve is home to some of the rarest species of animals in the Middle East. In this small 22 Km square reserve, you can enjoy a jeep safari to see the Arabian Oryx roaming freely in the desert grassland. Ostriches and Gazelles can also be observed in their enclosures. Shaumari’s breeding enclosures provide a small “zoo” for visitors, making the reserve a popular spot for children and school outings. These animals are rebuilding their populations in this safe haven, protected from the hunting and habitat destruction that nearly wiped them out.

Take a short drive onward to Azraq to tour its Roman Castle, which is solidly constructed out of black basalt. As result of its strategic location close to the borders of several countries and near to water supply, the site has been occupied by many different civilizations including the Umayyad, Ayyubids and Ottomans. T.E. Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia used the Castle as his military base in the winter during the Arab Revolt of the early 20th Century against the Turks.

Overnight: Azraq | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 3

Desert Castles & City Tour in Amman

Visit the “Desert Castles” (8th Century Omayyad hunting lodges) which are stunning examples of the early Islamic art and Architecture. Qasr Amra is one of the best-preserved monuments, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The walls inside and ceilings are covered with fine fresco, and rooms are paved with colorful mosaics. Before driving to Amman, we will visit another Desert Castle “Qasr Kharanah”, a caravan station, built in the reign of Al- Walid- Bin Abdul-Malik in 710 AD, as there was a Kufic inscription at one of the door of rooms on the second floor. Some historians believe that the Palace was built before the Umayyads, and then restored and immunized by the Umayyads to benefit from it during the reign.

Enjoy a city tour Amman which was known as Rabbath Ammon (the Great City of the Ammonites) and was later renamed Philadelphia circa 250 BC. Amman is really two different cities – Western Amman boasts modernism with large shopping malls, chic restaurants and wide streets, whereas the bustling markets, Smokey cafés and crowded streets are more characteristic of East Amman. The visit to the historic sites today includes the Roman Theatre, Folklore Museum and Modern City.

Overnight: Amman | Meals: Breakfast.

Day 4

Um Qais & Jerash

We head north, and visit the Decapolis city of Um Qais “Gadara” dramatic black-basalt Roman city sitting on a ridge with an atmospheric spot offering incredible view over the Sea of Galilee, Golan Heights and the Jordan Valley. Along with the Roman remains here, are the remnants of a late 19th century Ottoman village.

In nearby Jerash, the world’s best-preserved Roman provincial city. At its heart is a dramatic colonnaded public space from where cobbled, arcaded streets rutted with the tracks of Roman cartwheels lead past shop fronts and bathhouses to an impressive theatre. At the edge of Jerash is the Temple of Artemis with its exquisitely carved Corinthian capitol.

Overnight: Amman | Meals: Breakfast.

Day 5

Citadel in Amman, Madaba, Mt. Nebo & Um Ar-Rasas

After breakfast, enjoy a morning city tour in Amman; include a visit to the Citadel on Jebel al Qala’a, to get a wonderful view of the city, Omayyad Palace and Jordan’s National Archeological Museum. We leave Amman to Mt. Nebo, from which Moses has the first glimpse at the Promised Land – a Panoramic view of the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Jericho and the hills of Judea (if it’s clear) the distant spires and domes of the Mount of Olives, and visit the contemporary church with its display of mosaics from the succession of pilgrimage churches on this venerated spot.

Drive onward to Madaba “the city of Mosaics” and home to the world’s largest collection of ancient mosaics. The Main attraction in Madaba is the Madaba Map in St George’s Church, which represents the oldest map of Palestine and the Holy Land in existence and provides many historical insights to the region in the 6th Century. Explore further of Madaba to visit the Archaeological Park with its Byzantine and Herodian mosaics, Apostles Church and Madaba Museum.

To the east of Madaba is Umm Ar-Rasas, a very ancient site that is mentioned in both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. The rectangular walled city is mostly in ruins but does still include several buildings, as well as four churches and some beautiful stone arches. The main attraction is outside the city walls within the Church of St. Stephen, which contains a very large, perfectly preserved mosaic floor laid down in 718 AD. It portrays fifteen major cities of the Holy Land from both east and west of the River Jordan. This magnificent mosaic is second only to Madaba’s world famous mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Finally, we head south to Petra.

In the evening, attend the Petra by Night show.
Petra By Night program is a candle lit visit to the Rose-Red City of Petra. The special aura of the ancient Nabatean trading empire comes to life as you enjoy a stroll through the mysterious Siq of Petra. And at al Khaznah (The Treasury), music and stories will help you experience Petra as the travel-weary traders of old must have known it. The excursion departs from Petra Visitor Center each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evening at 20:30, returning to Visitor Center around 22:30.

Overnight: Petra | Meals: Breakfast.

Day 6

The Rose City of Petra

After breakfast, spend the day with your private guide exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Rose City of Petra. The ancient site rediscovered in 1812, and it was first settled around the 6th century BC by the Nabataean tribe from Arabian Peninsula. Start your magnificent archaeological treasure visit of the Rose City on foot through a narrow Siq, where the gorge leads you to reveal the famous facade of Al-Khazneh (the Treasury). Continuing your walk inside the ancient site and explore tombs, temples, an extraordinary Amphitheatre and a Roman colonnaded street.

If you still didn’t run out of energy, why not try to ascend the hundreds of rock-cut steps to ad-Deir. Better known as the Monastery, ad-Deir has a similar facade to that of the Treasury, but is quite bigger and the view from the top of the façade is breathtaking.

This evening join the crowd for a cuisine course at the local Petra Kitchen, where you help prepare a memorable Jordanian feast:
Petra Kitchen is a delightful way to round out your Jordan travel experiences. Like any home kitchen, The Petra Kitchen is a relaxed, informal atmosphere where you'll gather to prepare an evening meal, working alongside local women under the supervisions of their chef. Each evening meal includes soup, cold and hot mezza and salads, and a main course- all typical Jordanian dishes.

Overnight: Petra | Meals: Breakfast.

Day 7

Wadi Rum Desert

Free morning to revisit Petra. In the afternoon, we drive to the moonscape terrain of Wadi Rum that described by T. E. Lawrence as “vast, echoing and God-like.” A vast, peaceful landscape with amazing rock formations that stretches on colorful sandy desert. Enjoy 4×4 jeep safari inside the Protected Area across the sand dunes, while feeling the spirit of the spectacular scenic views of Wadi Rum. Tonight, we enjoy a Jordanian dinner with an overnight camping at private camp, where you’ll have a chance to enjoy the dazzling night skies of Wadi Rum.

Overnight: Wadi Rum | Meals: Breakfast & Dinner.

Day 8

Shobak Castle, Wadi Mujib & The Dead Sea

After breakfast, drive to Shobak Crusader castle, it was constructed in 1115 CE by Baldwin, dating from the same turbulent period as Karak. It crowns a cone of rock, which rises above a wild and rugged landscape dotted with a grand sweep of fruit trees below. It’s not as big as Karak Castle, which helps you get a better idea of what the original model looked like.

If you will be traveling to Jordan between April and October, drive to Wadi Mujib, Jordan’s own “Grand Canyon”, where you will have the chance to enjoy doing the Siq trail, this trail starts at the Visitor Center near the Mujib Bridge, where you will take the cantilevered walkway over the dam and follow the course of the river between towering sandstone cliffs to the base of a large waterfall. Depending on seasonal rainfall levels, the gorge may contain pools deep enough for swimming. This is an ideal walk to take slowly and enjoy the cool water and shade, especially in the heat of the summer. Through this beautiful and impressive Wadi, descend to the Dead Sea for free time.

Overnight: Dead Sea | Meals: Breakfast.

Day 9

Relaxation at the Dead Sea

Relaxation time! You have the day free to relax by the shore of the lowest point on earth’s surface, for a chance to swim and float in its buoyant mineral-rich waters of the world’s oldest spa or try a detoxifying a mud bath. You could also indulge in a massage or spa treatment at your hotel.

Overnight: Dead Sea | Meals: Breakfast.

This trip was an absolute blast, way beyond what I had in mind! Our tour guide was awesome—super knowledgeable and totally cool with all our last-minute changes, questions, and moments of indecision. They really went the extra mile, encouraging us more than needed. I've already told my friends about this amazing experience and highly recommended it.

I cannot describe how wonderful this trip was. Jordan and Petra in particular has been on my bucket list to visit for a long time and I have finally made to this heaven in October this year. Highlights of the trip were trekking through the gorges of Petra, first vision of the Treasury , 4WD through the desert outback of Wadi Rum and the sunset in Wadi Rum desert was fascinating. The tour group was well organized and managed by Ghaidan. His knowledge and leadership skills are outstanding and Plato Tours is lucky to have such a dedicated and passionate guide. He is funny and handled our group of different ages and needs with such ease.
